Seneca in Roman times in Devide et Impera

Biography of Seneca

Seneca, who was once the emperor teacher of Nero, died in 65 AD.

During his lifetime the Romans had experienced its decay.

The power of the state remains only in the strength of its armies, the kings who hold the government have lost their morals.

While people only have the possibility of withdrawing into their own inner world.

The same is true of Seneca.

From that time on, people began to break free from the noble customs that were passed down from generation to generation by the Romans to serve the country.

This is a great change after people for centuries held on to such customs.

People began to distance themselves from the affairs of the state, and deepened their inner self.

The well-organized rule of the emperor Marcus Aurelius showed his inability to fight the development of history based on nature.

Divide et impera in the Roman Empire

Thus, the Roman World Government, which was however strong, and organized according to a system of constitution that was practical and juridical, but rigid, this empire fell into a state of decay.

This is due to the fact that there is a weak part of the constitutional order, which is the socio-ethical part.

Also the weakness is found in the system or politics of his government, namely the system divide et impera.

Therefore, the Roman empire could not achieve a national empire that had a unity of customs, languages, religions and constitutions such as the Greek empire.

The ancient Greek kingdom as a small country, already having a strong union, was able to conquer the great power of Persia.

It has been said that the weakness of the Romans also lies in the system of divide et impera.
Because here people can use deception and so on the origin for the benefit of the country, this causes after the conquered nations become conscious again to hold resistance against the Romans. These are the things that caused the Roman World Government to be divided and fall.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, the history of thought about the state and law entered the medieval period.

The thinking of the state and the law in this medieval period was not directly dominated by worldly problems, especially those relating to material interests, and no longer from a philosophical point of view, but from a divine point of view, from a religious point of view.

And it is true that the development of the history of thought about the state and law in this medieval period coincided with the rise and development of Christianity, which would later give rise to the teachings of the state and law that were theocratic.
